Sacem has been on the front line alongside authors, composers and publishers due to the current Covid outbreak. It has also been attentive to all its clients which use the Sacem music repertoire and are impacted by this crisis. The curfew imposed on all inhabitants in several places of France is another hard blow for cultural life, for our members and our partners.

Sacem has put into place exceptional measures to support and assist music users since 17 March.

The principles underlying these measures during confinement were that if there is no exploitation, there will be no royalties.

Amongst these initial decisions were:

  • Suspension of all invoicing (authors rights and penalties)
  • Suspension of automatic direct debits
  • Suspension of all of Sacem’s administrative procedures

Permanent contracts relating to broadcasting background music in public venues (cafes, restaurants, hairdressers, shops etc.), were suspended. The venues included were ones that have been closed due to government directions.

These dispositions will unfortunately have a severe impact on authors, composers and publishers, whom in the absence of this broadcasting work may suddenly see their sole source of income disappear.

Sacem remains at your disposal via phone or email to answer any questions.
